Financial Planning for Parenthood

Do you have children?  Thinking about having children?  Have no idea how you are going to afford children and still put away enough money to pay for their education?  The Roark Law Firm and Ryan Westerburg of Merrill Lynch will try and shed some light on the myriad ways you can prepare for (and pay for) the legal and financial hurdles associated with parenthood.  Topics to be discussed include: What is a 529 Plan? How much will it cost to send your child to college and how can you start saving for that expense today?  How can you send your kids to college without jeopardizing your own long-term financial health? What is a guardianship and why do you want to avoid it? Who will raise your children if you pass away? How do you protect your children from themselves and their potential creditors?

We will be speaking tonight at the Millhopper Branch Library in Gainesville at 6:00 PM.

Life Planning 101

You are never too young or too old, too rich or too poor to start planning for your future.  With that in mind, the Roark Law Firm will be back at the Millhopper Branch Library in Gainesville Thursday, April 5th at 6:00 PM to lead a free and open discussion about Wills, Trusts, Living Wills, and the other steps you can take to reduce the burdens created by the death or incapacity of a loved one.  We will be talking about what happens if you pass away or become incapacitated in Florida and also touch on a couple of the things that every parent should have in place for their children.  For example, if you and your spouse were to pass away, who would take care of your children?  Your parents or your spouse’s?  Your spouse’s sister or your crazy uncle?  If none of those options sound appealing, come find out how you can ensure that the right people end up in charge of your children.
